Gallop South is honoured to announce a new category for races regionally regarded as historically important. These special races will be known as “Gallop South – Heritage Races”. The first race to be identified as such will be this Sunday’s Oamaru Cup, which was first run in 1883.
Gallop South is not overly blessed with black type races.

NZTR in conjunction with the Southern Regional Programming Committee (SRPC) will trial a limited number of ‘Benchmark Rating’ races between 1 August and 15 November. This trial follows extensive consultation with South Island based Industry participants.
